You Tube を活用したSSE の無料レッスン
私はMasako,スミス英会話大津校生です。最近Al 先生、John先生のTOEIC の聞き取りを勉強しています。TOYOTA は世界的なニュースで予め内容を知っているので解りやすいのですが、I Pad, I Podは、紛らわしい発音の名前でどちらも使ったことが無く、機械音痴なので、聞き取れても内容を理解するのが大変です。これらのビデオで、お二人が、少しゆっくりはっきり話してくださるので、一度質問を聞いてからもう一度聞き直すと答が解りやすくなります。答が選択方式なのですが、騙されやすいので用心しなくては。
SSE は、授業だけでなく今週のワンポイントなど You Tube を活用した無料レッスンがあり、時間があるときに何度でも聞いて復習したり勉強したりできるので、とても助かります。（生徒全員がコンピューターを持っていて使えるとは限らないのが、問題かも知れませんが）英語が書けても、読めても、話せても、まず聞き取れなければ始まりませんよね。いつも新しい工夫を凝らした楽しいレッスンをありがとうございます。
My name is Masako, I’m a student of SSE OHTSU. Recently I’m studying the TOEIC listening videos on You Tube produced by Al and John. The topic TOYOTA is news from worldwide media so it’s understandable but the topic about iPad’s pronunciation is easily confused with iPod so it’s hard to distinguish. I haven’t used either iPod or iPad, and what’s more, I’m an unmechanical person so it’s hard to understand even though I could hear the conversation. In these videos Al and John speak somewhat slowly and clearly so once I listened to the questions and then listened to the conversation once again, it became easy to get the answers. I should be careful, even though the answers are multiple choice, they are still tricky.
SSE offers not only real lessons but also free lessons on You Tube on the internet such as the one point lessons. It’s so helpful for students because we can study and review again and again, when we have free time. (Only one problem will be there is no guarantee that all students own and use PCs)
However we can write, read and speak English, the first thing should be listening, shouldn’t it? Thank you for the exciting and creative lessons all the time.

そうですマサコさん、リスニングは一番にやるべきの事です、子供のように。iPod とiPad の発音は特に日本人にとって難しいと思います。日本語の母音のアはiPodの’o’ に近いですが、iPadの’a' は日本語に有りませんので仕方が無いですね。頑張って下記の言葉の’a’ の発音をエドワード先生とチハル先生と練習してください。ただしく発音が出来るようになれば聴く事も出来ます。しかし、貴方の英語は本当に上手なので、その練習は必要ないと思います。
had, bad, sad, fat, hat, cat, rat, bat, mat, sat, spat, gnat (g is silent), tap, snap, wrap, lap, trap, nap, sap, strap, rap, brat, slat, math, strategy, gratitude, platitude, fraternity, maternity, matter, platter, batter, spatter, tatter, rattle, straddle, paddle etc.
vs.
rod, trod, modern, drop, crop, lop, flop, top, rob, fob, mob, octopus, october, rock, clock, sock, etc.
and another phoneme that does not exist in Japanese:
up, muck, truck, suck, tuck, buck, luck, struck, run, sun, none (yes not a ‘u’), fun, bun etc.
I learned the phrase below to pronounce the vowel sounds in Japanese. However, recently, I want to find a more pleasant phrase because I am starting to feel too much like the phrase. <笑>

Can you find a more pleasant phrase?
It is best to stay away from カタカナ and ロマ字when studying and trying to learn correct pronunciation of English, I think. Do you know the silent ‘e’ rule that defines the difference between the pronunciation of the ‘a’ in ‘tape’ vs. the ‘a’ in ‘tap’? Ask Edward and Chiharu about it. Enjoy!
